Meridiam and Carrefour: A successful partnership based on a strong commitment to Energy and Ecological Transition in France

19.05.2025

Éric Lombard, French Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, and Marc Ferracci, French Minister for Industry and Energy, visited the Carrefour site at l’Hay les Roses to test the new Allego electric vehicle charging stations, an investment by the Meridiam mission company. They were accompanied by Matthieu Muzumdar, Managing Director of Meridiam, and Alexandre Bompard, CEO of Carrefour.

The meeting was an opportunity to reiterate France’s commitments to sustainable mobility and the development of electric cars, in particular the goal of installing 400,000 charging stations for electric vehicles in the country by 2030. Allego, Meridiam and Carrefour recalled the success of their partnership, with the deployment of over 1,500 fast and ultra-fast charging stations for electric vehicles throughout France. This partnership is playing an active part in the development of charging infrastructures in France, and will help to facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles by a greater number of consumers. This deployment has enabled us to cover the whole of France, wherever motorists are present on a daily basis.

All the charging stations installed by Allego in Carrefour hypermarkets are powered by 100% renewable energy. They are available 24/7 for all types of vehicle (private or professional) and for all uses. To date, 741,000 unique customers[1] have made over 3.7 million charges at these charging stations.

Each of the sites hosting these charging infrastructures has also been designed to be scalable, and incorporates a power reserve. This means that, as demand increases and the thermal fleet is converted to electric power, new charging stations can be deployed quickly and easily at these sites, without increasing the power required to connect to the electricity grid.

These charging stations offer a tailored response to all customer needs:
– Comfort” charging service: with a power of 22 kW, this service is free for the first hour for customers with a Carrefour loyalty card. Ideal for recharging while shopping.
– Fast and ultra-fast recharging service: With outputs ranging from 75 kW to 300 kW, this service recharges electric vehicles in just 15 to 45 minutes, offering a fast, efficient solution for longer journeys.

Thierry Déau, CEO of Meridiam, commented: “Our partnership with Carrefour is a perfect illustration of Meridiam’s commitment to sustainable mobility. The deployment of charging stations for electric vehicles not only contributes to the democratization of the electric vehicle in France, but also makes a concrete contribution to the country’s energy and ecological transition. What’s more, it offers a practical, affordable and accessible local service to all citizens. Finally, this project plays a key role in the reindustrialization of the country and the relocation of the automotive industry, which Meridiam also directly supports through the Verkor Gigafactory project in Dunkirk.”

Through Allego, Meridiam is thus reaffirming its strong commitment to impactful, responsible and sustainable projects, actively contributing to the energy and ecological transition. Allego is a European leader in charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. With over 38,000 charging stations deployed in 16 European countries, the company is a key player in electric mobility in Europe.
